Fostering Leadership with the 2019 Artemax Internship Program

Onboarding college students for our summer intern program is something we’ve done at Artemax, Inc. for years. Not only is it an opportunity to gain fresh insights into our business, but it’s an important way to support students as they begin their journeys into the professional workforce.

It also allows for our current associates to develop and expand their own skills. Teaching our up-and-coming counterparts how to prioritize responsibilities, complete tasks, and accomplish goals, gives our employees the chance to mentor and manage others, while fostering their leadership abilities along the way.

This year at Artemax, we have our biggest summer internship yet. Read on to meet some of our current interns and learn how they are utilizing and building their specialized strengths and skillsets through our organization.

meet elliott szabo - our engineering intern

Elliott-2-1.jpg

Elliott comes to us from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee where he is majoring in Industrial Engineering. You can typically spot him running with our maintenance and production teams, working on any number of assignments. And although his internship is just a few weeks in, he’s already helping the Artemax team with equipment layout drawings and 6S projects.

When Elliott isn’t at Artemax, he enjoys being outdoors and camping. This summer, he’s looking forward to taking a trip to Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in northern Wisconsin. As for a unique fact about Elliott? He was born in Japan on a U.S. Air Force base.

meet kyle kretzer - our quality and production intern

Kyle-3.jpg

Kyle is majoring in Biomedical Engineering at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) and is welcomed as a member of our Production and Quality Assurance departments. Having an intern like Kyle seated at the table offers us new perspectives we wouldn’t normally have access to. He consistently provides great insight into creating more efficiencies and innovations, allowing us to assemble different strategies going forward.

Kyle says, “One thing I’ve really enjoyed at Artemax thus far is being able to work in, or talk and learn about, almost every single department here.”

As for a fun little anecdote about Kyle, he once played the cello for a Palm Sunday service in Germany…the most interesting part, however, was a very real donkey attending the service as well!

meet jack schumacher - our accounting intern

Jack-4.jpg

Jack is a sophomore at Valparaiso University, majoring in Finance and Marketing. An already amazing asset to the Artemax Accounting team, Jack has really enjoyed the variety of projects he’s been given thus far, as well as the spontaneous manner in which he has been able to jump into new tasks and endeavors. One day, he might be working at his desk on an Excel spreadsheet, and the next, learning the ins and outs of our Shipping department.

“Having these different types of jobs and roles is teaching me diligence, patience, and how to work hard to complete my tasks efficiently,” Jack says.

last but not least - meet laura habrel, our digital pre-press intern

Laura-4.jpg

Laura Habrel, currently studying Graphic Design at Waukesha County Technical College, is the newest face in our Art department. Of her internship experience so far, Laura states, “I’ve learned a lot about the manufacturing process…from the initial idea to the final product, and everything in between.”

Laura works with our Sales team to create wristband and lanyard proofs. While that may sound simple in theory, it’s a crucial step in our manufacturing process that has many moving parts, and it’s one that Laura facilitates quite well. When Laura isn’t at Artemax, she can be found taking an archery course in Sussex, WI, or perfecting her knack for crocheting.

This summer is off to a productive start at Artemax; we are full steam ahead, charged with our largest group of interns we’ve ever had before, supporting us at the helm. Their bright ideas and abundant enthusiasm has invigorated our company, and we’re excited to offer them tangible work experiences in return that will surely help them learn and grow beyond the classroom.
